To expand our inspection capabilities we have added a Mitutoyo Contour Tracer, Model C-3700. The Avant FormTracer series boasts best in class speed for both drive unit and column axis along with a quick stroke return speed. This will significantly enhance our inspection capabilities in measuring contoured surfaces.
We have added to our vertical milling department with a Haas VF-4 30 H.P. with 10,000 rpm spindle, full 4 & 5 axis index capability, 50 X 20 X 25 travels, 30+1 side mount tool changer, wireless intuitive probing system, high speed machining option with through spindle coolant.
To further enhance our shop floor inspection capabilities, we have added a third Brown & Sharpe One CMM to increase our throughput of verification of parts in the manufacturing area. It is a BROWN & SHARPE ONE 7-10-7 with PC-DMIS software and articulating motorized probe with measurement range of 27.6” x 39.4” x 27.6”.
To further enhance our inspection capabilities, we have added a Brown & Sharpe Excel 9-15-9 CMM. It has PC-DMIS CAD ++ software and a measurement range of 900mm (35.4”) Y: 1500mm (59”) Z : 850mm (33.5”) X with the HH-AS8-2.5 automatic probe head and the HP-S-X1h probe for scanning and touch point measurements.
L&R celebrated the 20th anniversaries of Dean Hertzler, Operations Manager 12/99 & Chris Coffey, VP of Business Development 05/99 joining the company. They were presented engraved solid cherry plaques to honor their service and dedication in helping to make L&R a success.
Notably in addition to Chris & Dean, there are eleven additional employees with 10 to 23 years of service, providing a nucleus of experience in serving our long-standing customers.
Chump aka. Keith Perdieu & Mark Stinnett both began their careers with L&R in February of 2000 and both retired in 2019, Chump in July and Mark in December. They were both presented with engraved solid cherry plaques to honor their service and dedication in helping to make L&R a success.
L&R has become a 1/3 Employee Owned Company. We started warehousing the funds to make this transition several years ago as it has always been part of our long term goal to give back to our employees by eventually becoming 100% Employee Owned.
The ESOP is a great vehicle to assist in long term retirement planning for our employees, at no cost to them, while creating a tax advantage that makes us more competitive for our customers benefit.
We also recently have added a larger manual Brown & Sharpe CMM in our inspection area to not only allow for inspection of larger parts but to assist in improving efficiencies with our extensive inspection requirements. This is our fourth Brown & Sharpe CMM with two of them having articulating motorized probes.
We have added our second Tsugami lathe to our multi-axis CNC Mill/Turn department. The Tsugami M08SY Turning Center has a larger thru bore to accommodate larger diameter material to enhance cycle times with its Edge Technologies auto loader bar feeder. The Y-axis allows you to perform highly complex machining, such as turning, drilling, boring, cross-drilling and CNC milling. The main and sub-spindle are equipped with integral built-in spindle motors which minimize vibration and provide superior accel/decel for heavy duty cutting and fine finishing. The Y-axis enables off center CNC milling of complex parts and incorporating the sub-spindle eliminates the need for secondary operations. Ideal for a wide range of applications, the M08SY is built for high accuracy, high production machining. The Y-axis enables turret tool positioning above or below center. The robust 12-position turret mounted to the Y-axis allows users to mount driven tooling at any turret position for use on the main or sub-spindle. This tool zone flexibility coupled with the C-axis provides the capability and flexibility to machine virtually any feature and drop your part complete in one clamping. It has the Fanuc Oi-TD Control and a Edge Technologies Rebel 80 bar feeder.

We are pleased to announce the transition of our Quality System to AS 9100 Rev D & ISO 9001:2015. The transition to AS 9100 Rev D is a natural progression for us with our equipment, machining knowledge and accuracy with difficult materials. Our Okuma / Fastems Flexible Manufacturing System has provided the vehicle to shorten lead times, improve pricing, even on smaller batch sizes, and be better prepared to accommodate schedule and quantity changes. Specifically for repeat horizontal machining for our aerospace, aviation and commercial customers.
We are also ITAR & GIDEP registered to better accommodate the needs of our current and future customers in Industry and Government. These registrations allow us to share technical information and to have a more robust counterfeit parts knowledge base at our disposal.
L&R celebrated the 20th anniversary of two our employees, Jackie Satterfield, August 6th, 1997 and Scott Mullins, December 2nd, 1997. Jackie’s role has evolved from the Office Manager’s position to include also being VP of Finance and Scott who came to L&R as a cnc machinist is now VP of Manufacturing. Engraved solid cherry plaques were presented to honor their service and dedication in helping to make L&R a success.
